Persevere & Citadel Court

These pics were taken from my camera phone whilst I was on the bus so they're not the best. But anyway the pics are of the big 19-story tower blocks next to Leith's Ocean Terminal, Persevere Court and Citadel Court. These blocks have not always been called that, Citadel Court used to be Thomas Fraser Court and Persevere Court was John Russel Court (thanks to 'anne' for this information). These flats were refurbished at around 1989/1990 and the crumbling grey concrete sides of the buildings were covered by metal painted blue and yellow to protect the flats from damp and prevent heat escaping.

Also, here is a picture (taken by Dave Henniker) of the flats many many years ago, before they had been refurbished. These pictures have been reduced in quality and size, please go to www.henniker.com for full size versions and many other great pics of Edinburgh and its suburbs.

The general area is called couper street and for some reason Scran claims they were demolished in 1990.

they were john russell ct and thomas fraser ct,named after 2 lord provosts of leith(before leith and edinburgh merged in 1920)they are now only let to folks over 35 i believe, further along used to be grampian and cairngorm houses(called so because it was reputed you could see grampian and cairngorm mountains on clear day!)they were about 22 storys i think, looked massive as a kid, with tiny wee windows, they were fre fab built(each part in factory then peiced together on site)they were demolished in the 1990s,no one wanted to live there, outlived there use, they were quite ugly, brutalist looking flats
